Getting there

The MCG gets very busy and crowded during the summer cricket season. We recommend public transport as the best option for getting to the Boxing Day Test.

Train

There are two train stations close to the MCG:

  • Jolimont (also known as MCG Station) is north of the ground and is a short walk (350m) through Yarra Park to Gate 2. To get to Jolimont Station from the city, take the Hurstbridge or Mernda lines from Flinders Street, Southern Cross, Flagstaff, Melbourne Central, or Parliament stations.
  • Richmond is 850m from the MCG. You will need to walk along Punt Road Oval and go through Yarra Park to reach the Shane Warne Stand on the southern side of the MCG. To get to Richmond Station from the city, you can catch any train on the Lilydale, Belgrave, Alamein, Glen Waverley, Frankston, or Sandringham lines.

Tram

Three tram routes provide access to the MCG:

  • Route 75 (City-Vermont South) travels along Flinders St and connects with the eastern suburbs via Wellington Parade. Stop 11 Jolimont Station/MCG is 300m from Gate 2 and 400m from Gate 3.
  • Route 48 (Docklands/City-North Balwyn) travels along Collins Street and connects with the eastern suburbs via Wellington Parade. Stop 11 Jolimont Station/MCG is 300m from Gate 2 and 400m from Gate 3.
  • Route 70 (Docklands/City-Wattle Park) travels along Flinders Street, then detours via Melbourne Park with Stop 7B for MCG Gates 1-3 and Stop 7C for MCG Gates 4-7.

Bus

  • Bus route 246 links Clifton Hill Station with Elsternwick Station. This is the perfect service for patrons travelling from the northern and southern suburbs. The 246 bus stops on Punt Road, approximately 600m from the MCG through Yarra Park.
